Today we’d like to introduce you to Lola Clay.

Hi Lola, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I’ve been a practicing psychotherapist in the greater Houston area for many years. I practiced at many major area agencies before entering private practice in 2009. A few years later I formed a group practice with my sister Crystal. We now have two locations, one in Houston near the Memorial/Galleria area and one in Sugarland. At Zen Imago, PLLC our motto is “Empathy, Advocacy, Affection, and Alliance” in working with clients. The goal is to model healthy interactions and emotional efficacy. I gained worldwide acclaim as a featured expert on the TLC series my 600lb life. Helping people live the lives they deserve is my passion; as such we offer a wide variety of counseling, coaching, consulting, and psychological services.

We work with individuals, families, businesses, athletes, executives, and celebrities to help them unlock their personal best and transcend obstacles. I also mentor other women entrepreneurs with a focus on building confidence and brand management. I truly have a passion for people and I know I am a gifted healer. I want everyone to know they can experience joy and be in control of life.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The road to success was not always easy. As a former model, I experienced a lot of prejudice based on my attractiveness. People judged me before giving me a chance and have tried to diminish my accomplishments. Helping others has always been a part of my life and at one point I had to take a step back to help myself. I was stricken by a debilitating mystery illness and suffered for 10 years before getting a diagnosis of Ankylosing Spondylitis. By the time I began treatment some of my spine had irreversibly fused, resulting in neck paralysis. I didn’t allow that to get me down, instead I think it has given me new perspective; an added layer of complexity that adds depth to my world view. The most trying time I’ve experienced was my Mom’s diagnosis of pancreatic cancer. She encouraged me to continue growing my practice throughout her journey.

Meanwhile, my siblings and I rallied around her and provided her with support and care. Most incredibly she helped us grieve while she was still alive. It was the ultimate act of nurturing and compassion. I’m very proud of my Mom’s cancer journey because as a family we were determined to give her a good death; she went through treatment long enough to sustain comfort, travel with us, and spend a final holiday season. She surrendered her battle and transitioned on November 13, 2019. She died a day after my late father’s birthday because I asked her not to leave on his birthday. Since her death I have become a cancer cure enthusiast and I work with the Lustgarten Foundation to raise funds for pancreatic cancer research. Our next fundraiser is an art show: The Art of Love on June 26, 2021.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Zen Imago, PLLC is comprised of highly qualified, skilled clinicians. We serve a diverse clientele and tailor our services to the need of the client. We provide evaluation and intervention for a myriad of issues including but not limited to substance abuse treatment, anger management, grief recovery, spiritual guidance, weight management, confidence coaching with children and adolescents, and business coaching. I am known for being extremely knowledgeable and results oriented. I am known for encouraging ingenuity and healthy risk taking and I am very proud of this about my brand. Our Stop Being Mad curriculum is among the most widely utilized and effective anger management curriculum. I am proud that I have led my team in creating a safe judgment free zone for clients. I know every malady has a root issue, and currently we are educating the sports world about aggression in players of contact sports; we are producing a series called Grid Iron Rage and it will be available on the Zen Imago YouTube channel. My firm is also a training institute and we accept counseling and psychology practicum students from surrounding colleges and universities.

What makes you happy?
I am happiest when I spend time with my family because I love them so much! I am fortunate to live a life well-loved and it is my sincere wish that everyone could have that experience; that is why I do what I do. I love on each and every person I meet, it’s my greatest gift to give and love transcends all.
