Addiction

Zen Imago, PLLC is committed to addressing the needs of those struggling with addiction. While we are concerned with addressing the needs of those addicted to illicit and prescription drugs, we understand that those suffering from acute and chronic pain may have unique needs related to being diagnosed with a disorder with pain as a characteristic.

We understand that there are many factors that may contribute to chemical dependency/drug addiction. We seek to aid in helping those who have developed a physical dependency on drugs, those who recreationally abuse substances, and those who are active users and abusers as well as those who are in recovery.

When addressing the needs of those who are struggling with addiction we typically employ the use of an eight-week model detailed below.

The Process

PRE-ASSESSMENT:

Have the client undergo a complete physical (physician) and psychological (licensed psychologist) assessment to diagnose any physical and/or psychological conditions that may contribute to the client’s drug abuse/chemical dependency. Determine if dual diagnosis exists.

SCREENING:

All potential clients must undergo screening to determine if the client is appropriate to receive services from Zen Imago, PLLC or if they are in need of a referral.

WEEK 1:

Intake and Assessment: Complete appropriate documents. Determine if the client is using a drug(s) to deal with pain. Determine if the client has developed an addiction to a particular drug(s).

WEEK 2:

Initial Treatment Planning: Match client to treatment. Determine if inpatient or outpatient treatment is necessary.

WEEK 3:

Continued Assessment and Treatment Planning: Individualize treatment by identifying goals and objectives, evaluating client strengths and weaknesses, personal history, use/abuse patterns and committing the client to work towards retention.

WEEK 4:

Counseling: Begin psycho-social treatment. This may include participation in Twelve Step Programs, individual counseling, and group therapy. For those living with pain, this may include group meetings with others who are also dealing with pain related drug abuse.

WEEK 5:

Counseling and Client Education: Discuss the effects of medications that are prescribed as a part of treatment. Discuss the importance of medication adherence and relapse prevention.

WEEK 6:

Counseling and Education: Discuss dual diagnosis as it relates to treatment for addiction (includes depression, suicide risk, psychosis, paranoia, pain disorders and analgesic Rx’s, violence, domestic abuse and anger management).

WEEK 7:

Counseling and Education: Discuss co-dependency. May include meeting with family/significant others. Goal is to have significant others understand the needs of the client and how they may be instrumental in helping the client maintain sobriety or abstain from drug abuse.

WEEK 8:

Referral: Goal setting and measuring treatment outcomes. Includes measures of efficacy and effectiveness, need for change of plan (if necessary), use of additional outside supportive social resources and development of a long term recovery and relapse prevention plan.
*If at any time during this eight week process the client experiences relapse or crisis an intervention will be facilitated to respond to the client’s emotional and/or physical distress.
* Case Management: The process by which the client is matched with additional services, agencies, resources and people to aid in the achievement of the client’s treatment related goals. Case management is ongoing throughout the course of treatment.
* Zen Imago, PLLC ensures comprehensive and quality care by consulting with in house staff and outside professionals who are a part of the integrated care team providing services to the client.
